Our customers are always astounding us with their creativity, innovation and hard work. This week, in these uncertain times, we couldn't be prouder of staff at Birchwood High School, Bishops Stortford, who are using their innovative design skills to help in the fight against Covid-19.
The teachers in the Design and Technology department were approached by the Local Carers Team, who wondered whether their 3D printer could be used in the production of a face shield design, to help meet the shortages for frontline carers.
The team took a look at the design and quickly realised they wouldn’t be able to produce them fast enough. They got to work and re-engineered the design to be both more cost effective and production time efficient.
Birchwood gave us a call to help with the supply of materials and are now up and running, producing the face shields at a rate of 150 per day, with a material cost of approximately £0.50 each. What an amazing achievement and testament to how innovation and design can help in this crisis.
The teachers at Birchwood are keen to share their work in case there are others out there who may be able to do something similar. They have put together this document to show their working and assist others. Can you help us spread the word by sharing this blog post?
